"A small pie, but hearty fill."
On this rare weekday day off for Man Tou, we embarked on our much anticipated food trip.
A whole day food trip was how we started, before we came together...
And though it is becoming rare due to our busy schedules,
it is still something we both look forward to, simply because we always have something new to discover along the journeys...
So anyway,
Our first stop was at Big Ben's Place.
Tucked right at the peaceful little quiet lane of Swan Lake Avenue (Opera Estate),
This England like cottage looking shop looks welcoming on the outside,
and cozy on the inside.
Walk right through the wooden frame door and Paddington bear greets you at the door =)
He's just at the cashier corner =)
And the aroma of freshly baked pie warmly invites you inside...
Okie, their signature dish is their PIES.
Chicken and mushroom, beef and vegetables, and oh this caught my eye, beef and stout.
ooooo...
being adventureous,
we ordered the beef and stout set.
each set comes with a pie, side salad and fries, and a soup of the day.
Their soup has bits of mushroom, onion and garlic inside that gives it a rough, flavourful texture.
But the garlic taste was a little *overwhelming though.. (*for me la)
Our beef pie, was served pipping hot.
And the crust was a little flaky, but chewy.
the filling inside, was generous chucks of beef (not very tender, but still tasty)......
We only ordered one set, with root beer, and it was good enough. =)
But of cox, what is a meal without dessert?
They have quite a few range of fruit pies with ice cream to choose from.
and we chose the blueberry pie.
It proved to be a delightfully sweet choice.
As we cut the pie, the blueberry filling oozes out of the pie, like a chocolate fondant.
It is THAT good.
So obviously, we quite enjoy that little pie shop.
They are open til night and serve other main course dishes like steak and fish and chips, and a rather unique selection of beers.
Big Ben's Place is perfect for small groups, first dates, young budget dates.
The unpretentious place also price their food reasonably well and serve them with a friendly smile.
I personally prefer going in the afternoon for high tea though. Because the swan lake avenue parkway connector is a pleasure to walk through on a breezy afternoon if you are blessed. =)
"Walking with your hands in mine,
Walking in the perfect time,
Talking in the mist of the breezy wind
Talking with peaceful joy within,
How wonderful He has blessed us.
How lovely He has loved us.
Because He first loved us, that's why we can..."
